As Troop 111 has done for the last few years, our Winter Trilogy of cold weather camping trips starts this December with an overnight snowshoeing trip to Donner Summit. Then, in January the annual Klondike Derby will be held at the North Tahoe Regional Park with competitive events, sledge races and snowshoe races. Finally, in February, we will head out to Carson Pass for some backcountry camping before driving over to the Grover Hot Springs for another night of camping.
- Snowshoeing: December 19-20, 2015
- 2016 Klondike Derby: Jan 22-24, 2016
- Carson Pass Camping/Snowshoeing: February 2016 (dates TBD)
Troop 111 has a 2 night backpacking trip to Point Reyes planned for November 21, 22 and 23. This is the weekend before Thanksgiving. The plan is to leave early Saturday morning and return Monday afternoon.
This will be a great opportunity for new scouts to learn some backpacking skills, as well as perhaps work on some rank advancement requirements. The Point Reyes area has some great trails and is a pretty neat spot to backpack. Overall the level of difficulty will be easy to moderate. We will be carrying everything we need with us and will be camping out for 2 nights.
We’re going to Philmont Scout Ranch in 2016! Philmont is a national high adventure base focused on hiking and camping, and we were fortunate to get two crews approved for a 12-day trek leaving July 30, 2016.
When: September 4-7, 2015
Our next scheduled camping trip will be September 4-7 (Labor Day weekend) at Lassen Volcanic National Park. The troop will drive up Friday evening after school, spend Saturday and Sunday hiking and exploring the park, and then return on the Monday holiday. We intend to hike to the top of Lassen Peak for amazing views of the park, and check out the geothermal wonders of Bumpass Hell. More information about the park can be found at http://www.nps.gov/lavo/index.htm.
